24 Apr FAM 30 and the case of the missing disinfectants

Although thankfully now resolved, cleansing and disinfecting regimes were thrown into disarray a few weeks ago when several widely used disinfectants approved for official work by DEFRA were simultaneously suspended from their approved list.  The details of why various products were suspended is not known as this is a commercial issue between DEFRA and the manufacturers.  DEFRA have however committed to changing their testing timelines to ensure that several widely used disinfectants are not all tested at the same time.  Communications from DEFRA around testing results and mitigation should obtaining disinfectants be difficult will also be improved.  Here at UK Farmcare, we will also be running monthly checks on the list to ensure that the most commonly used disinfectants are still approved and will notify suppliers of any issues we become aware of.
